Fire alarm in Herdecke: Garden arbor fire causes smoke poisoning!

Herdecke – Red alert for the fire department!

A shocking gazebo fire occurred on Gederner Street on Thursday around 6:37 p.m. When emergency services arrived, the fire was blazing in full force and threatening everything nearby, while last survivors in the hut tried to put out the devastating fire with a watering can. Tragically, two residents inhaled the toxic smoke and suffered smoke inhalation. A person passing by was also affected. All three people marked by this drama were immediately taken to a hospital in Witten.

Fight the flames!

The fire department reacted quickly and used two C-pipes to control the inferno. Meanwhile, the Wetter/Witten railway line had to be closed - the danger was simply too great! The overhead lines, which were live and at risk from the fire, were carefully checked after the operation to rule out possible risks. Embers that were secretly stirring in the background were detected using a thermal imaging camera and finally exposed with a chainsaw. The operation was also necessary for a dense ivy hedge, which posed a further threat.

"The owners' own attempts to extinguish the fire were well-intentioned, but extremely dangerous. But the fire department prevented anything worse from happening and stopped the flames from spreading to surrounding buildings," the operations manager reported proudly. The Herdecke fire department, two ambulances, an emergency doctor and numerous police officers were on duty for over two hours. In addition, an emergency manager from Deutsche Bahn supported the incident on site, while investigators from the criminal police arrived soon after the incident to clarify the cause of the fire. This drama is taking its toll - Gederner Straße will remain closed for the time being!
