First responders revolutionize emergency assistance: help available at lightning speed!

A remarkable change has taken place in the regions of Germersheim, Südliche Weinstraße and in the city of Landau: the mobile rescuers have been replaced by the first rescuers. This was announced by the Südliche Weinstrasse district, which passed on the innovation along with information about the alerting process. A key feature of this innovative step is the use of a new app that alerts first responders in emergencies, parallel to the regular emergency services.

The dedicated volunteers who are trained to be first responders often have the advantage of being able to reach the scene of an emergency more quickly than the emergency services. This allows them to take life-saving measures if necessary while waiting for professional medical support. With this rapid response, you can bridge crucial minutes during an emergency, which can often be crucial for the survival of those affected.

Volunteers wanted

At the same time, there is an ongoing call to recruit new first responders. Future volunteers who are interested in such a position can register directly with the Südliche Weinstraße district or the Germersheim district. These trainings are expected to begin in early 2025. Anyone who would like to qualify for this important role in the community has the opportunity to register for the training courses by sending an email to the responsible authorities: kats@suedliche-weinstrasse.de or bks@kreis-germersheim.de.

Since the introduction of the mobile rescue system in the Germersheim district in 2016 and the later connection of Landau and Südlicher Weinstraße in 2018, there have been a remarkable number of alarms - almost 5,000 in this period alone. These numbers illustrate the urgency and need for qualified first responders in the region and show that training and coordination of first responders has become an important pillar in emergency care.
