Investigations against the chief security chief of hail drama!

Almost ten months after a hailstorm weather, which a AUA machine significantly damaged, the Vienna public prosecutor's office has initiated investigations against the head of the federal security office (SUB) and against six other people. There are suspicions of abuse of office, favoring and evidence suppression, which, however, do not apply to all accused equally.

The Airbus A320 of the AUA got into a thunderstorm cell on the return flight from Palma de Mallorca on the return flight from Palma de Mallorca and had to make an emergency call with the signal "Mayday". Despite the critical Situation, the machine landed safely at the Vienna-Schwechat Airport, with luck luckily no passengers were injured. However, the AUA machine had to accept severe damage.

Investigations and seizures

Three weeks ago, the Cockpit Voice Recorder and the flight data writer were confiscated in the Ministry of Transport after the sub had not published these records voluntarily. Passenger attorney Wolfgang List had previously submitted a presentation of the property with the Vienna public prosecutor, in which he suspected corruption and other crimes.

The Viennese prosecution then checked the initial suspicion and initiated an investigation that is expected to take longer due to the large number of surveys. In the SUB interim report, the incident is called "incident" and not as a "accident", which raises additional questions. List List also criticized the SUB not to allow the publication of the Voice Recorders and data.

Independent examination of the BFU

The Federal Office for Flight Accident Investigation (BFU) is active in accordance with Regulation No. 996/2010 and the flight accident investigation law and deals with the examination of accidents and serious disorders of civil aircraft. The BFU examinations are independent of ongoing judicial or administrative procedures and aims at accident prevention. Cases abroad also play a role for the BFU if, for example, the aircraft concerned is registered in Germany.

International private reports have confirmed that the AUA incident was a “serious accident”. However, the machine cockpit Voice recorder and flight data writer have not yet been evaluated. The Vienna Higher Regional Court must now decide whether to ensure the records.

The public prosecutor's office in Korneuburg continues to investigate the allegation of negligent community risk. A final result of the ongoing investigations is currently not foreseeable in view of the extensive facts.
