Cold wave: How to use the ADAC Medical app correctly!
Millions of people in Austria and Germany are currently complaining about cold symptoms such as coughing, runny nose and sore throat. Waiting rooms that are too full and long waiting times at general practitioners force many people to first look for medical advice online. The ADAC Medical app offers digital assistance for this: around 3,000 users have used the app's symptom checker in the last few weeks to carry out an initial assessment of their symptoms, reported adac.de. This service is free to members and non-members and incorporates evidence-based approaches to evaluating cold symptoms.
Symptom checker and telemedicine
As Jens Schwietring, Head of Medicine at ADAC Luftrettung, explains, the symptom checker can provide valuable information in order to decide whether to consult a doctor. If you have a cough, for example, it makes sense to note whether the cough lasts longer than 10 days or is accompanied by a fever. In such cases you should definitely consult a doctor. For more classic cold symptoms such as common colds or viral sinus infections, a visit to the doctor is often not absolutely necessary, explained Schwietring. The initial digital anamnesis is carried out in a structured manner in the app and allows you to quickly find out about your own health.
In addition to symptom assessment, the ADAC Medical app offers telemedicine and online appointment bookings in collaboration with partners such as TeleClinic and Doctolib. Users can conveniently book doctor's appointments via their smartphone, which is particularly advantageous for acute illnesses, says ots.at. Whether it's a middle ear infection or an injured ankle on vacation - the app enables quick medical advice via video and ensures that all necessary documents, such as prescriptions or sick notes, are provided. All functions are designed so that non-members also have access to the basic services, while telemedical advice is available exclusively for ADAC members.
