Drama in Budapest: Austria's U18 ladies fail due to relegation!
At the U18 Women's Eishockey World Championship of the Division 1a in Budapest, which took place from January 5th to 11th, the two talented East Tyroleans Siri Zimmermann from Lienz and Emma Kleinlercher from Huben represented the Austrian team. These two committed players are not only part of the Lady Hawks in Villach, but also actively at the Lakers from Klagenfurt. Siri also shows her skills in the U15 of the EC IDM VSV and UEC Lienz, which underlines its versatility.
fight for relegation
In the prestigious tournament, the Austrians competed against strong opponents such as Germany, France, Italy and Norway. The team had a bumpy start, starting with a narrow 3: 4 defeat against Italy, followed by a clear 0: 7 defeat against Germany. But there were bright spots: In their game against Norway, the girls were able to take a point from a 3: 4 defeat in the overtime and against France they secured a gripping 2-1 win after extra time, which made their relegation to be close, as the East Tyrolean messenger reported.
In the decisive game against host Hungary, a single point would have been enough to stay in the league. Unfortunately, an unfortunate goal fell in the exciting final phase, which the Austrians defeated 0-1. You now have to descend to the B group and fight for the return to the 1A division next year. Despite the disappointment, Siri and Emma can be proud of their achievements and their fighting spirit throughout the tournament, such as [Dolomitenstadt] and the [East Tyrolean Bote] took note.
