Göhren/Stralsund – Racing dreams are big in this small community! Claas Czechan, only seven years old, is the only speedway driver on Rügen and has already conquered the heart of motorsport. His family is fully immersed in the sport of speedway. Twice a week the little whirlwind sets off with his parents from Göhren to Stralsund to train at MC Nordstern. Determined and motivated, he begins the adventure with his racing machine - and has been doing so for a whopping two years!
Like a little hero, Claas tells how he sat on a motorcycle for the first time at the age of five and immediately celebrated his debut by crashing into the barrier - but scared? None! “I’m not afraid when driving,” the brave boy explains. He is aiming for a podium place at the next championships, having already achieved fourth place this year. His goal: The big Grand Prix! Inspired by sports heroes like Norick Blödorn and Kai Huckenbeck, Claas only has big dreams in mind.
The challenge of speedway sports
But the way there is not without hurdles! The expenses for the equipment are a real chunk: a motorcycle costs around 1200 euros, plus tires for around 90 euros. Every tragedy - Claas has fallen several times, sitting over the handlebars! But nothing stops him. “But I didn’t hurt myself,” smiles the little fighter. His parents fully support him, while his 13-year-old brother Ben acts as “the mechanic” of the pack. The Czechan family is proud of their speedway dream and does everything they can to ensure that Claas’ passion – and that of the entire family – can flourish.
When it comes to the smell of gasoline, the excitement of the races and the thrill, father Michael gets all nostalgic. His own childhood love of speedway drives the family as they plunge into the exciting world of racing together. There is no room for doubt or fear here - all that counts is victory and the dream of one day driving in the big Grand Prix!
