Reducing bureaucracy: CDU/CSU strengthens volunteerism and relieves the burden on clubs!

In a crucial debate in the Bundestag tomorrow, Friday, the CDU/CSU parliamentary group's proposal to relieve the burden on voluntary work and clubs will be discussed for the first time. This application entitled “Promote commitment, strengthen volunteering, relieve the burden on clubs – reduce bureaucracy in volunteering and club work” aims to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and create incentives for volunteering.

Günter Krings, the legal policy spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, expressed concern about the ongoing overload of volunteers under the existing government. "The heavy burden on volunteers and clubs has been ignored for too long. With our application, we are now presenting 14 concrete suggestions that will permanently strengthen volunteer work and noticeably relieve the burden on clubs," he emphasized. He sees the need to adequately support volunteer work and appeals to the traffic light coalition to implement the suggestions as quickly as possible.

Focus on bureaucratic hurdles

Martin Plum, the rapporteur on reducing bureaucracy, found that clubs spend an average of more than six hours a week dealing with bureaucratic requirements. He criticized the Bureaucracy Relief Act and noted that there are currently no effective measures to relieve the burden. “Excessive bureaucracy discourages many people from getting involved in clubs,” Plum continued. His vision is to reduce the bureaucratic burden on volunteers and associations by half so that they can concentrate on their actual tasks.

Florian Müller, another representative of the CDU/CSU, added: “Joy and motivation in volunteer work are put to a severe test by too much bureaucracy.” His comments emphasize that the implementation of the proposed measures could potentially eliminate around 25 percent of the current bureaucratic burden, which means around 1.5 hours less bureaucracy per week for volunteers.

The background to this proposal is the CDU/CSU's belief that volunteerism forms the backbone of society and therefore urgently needs support. In view of these challenges, the Union is an important supporter of volunteers. She calls on the traffic light coalition to seriously engage in dialogue about easing the conditions for volunteer work.
