SPD demands more recognition: Mayor accounts for successful year
Friedberg, Deutschland - On January 10, 2025, the SPD expressed in a press release that its participation in various projects in the city of Friedberg will be missing. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Rack from the SPD emphasized that since Mayor Kjetil Dahlhaus took office in January 2024, numerous projects that had previously been dragged were initiated.
Among the projects mentioned are the redesign of Kaiserstrasse, wind power on the Winterstein and the renovation of the Kita Bunte 11. The mayor himself drew a positive record of his first year in his Friedberg Podcast and emphasized the close cooperation with the Technical University of Middle Hesse. The SPD supported new top-of-the-art beams, including Dahlhaus and Christine Diegel.

It was particularly criticized that the applications and impulses of the SPD in the podcast remained unmentioned. The redesign planning for Kaiserstrasse was initiated by an SPD application in November 2022. In addition, the SPD called for an inventory of the old town before the mayor election. A team of staff is discontinued to determine housing and commercial vacancies, which is also due to an SPD claim.
The projects "Kreativhaus" and "Future room" come from the state program "Future Downtown", in which the city took part in the SPD initiative. In addition, the SPD parliamentary group called for a medium-sized increase for the housing association (WoBau) and agreed on a grant of 500,000 euros. Another success of the SPD is the renewal of the lane divider in Saarstrasse, which took place on its insistence. Rack concluded with the hope that political authors will be appropriately mentioned in future balance sheets.
Kjetil Dahlhaus, which is independent, was introduced to office on December 14, 2023 in an extraordinary meeting of the Friedberg city council. The introductory ceremony took place in the large hall of the town hall and was visited by around 200 guests. Dahlhaus was elected mayor on September 24, 2023 with 60.58 % of the votes and took office on January 8, 2024, which runs until January 7, 2030.
In his inaugural speech, Dahlhaus emphasized the need for transparency and communication in urban politics. He announced that the population will be more involved in future decisions and plans to publish a regular podcast from the town hall. His challenges include affordable living, social participation, migration, climate, energy and the redesign of Kaiserstrasse. The mayor also wants to form a youth council to involve the youth in urban development.
