Heidelberg opened nice toilets: clean and accessible to everyone!

The idea of the "nice toilets" is becoming more and more popular in German cities and is now also causing a sensation in Heidelberg. As Orf Salzburg , the concept was introduced in Salzburg in December 2023. There all guests can use the toilets in companies involved without having to consume anything. In exchange, the participants receive local support of around 200 euros for additional cleaning costs. The initiative now includes numerous institutions, including bars, cafés and also local departments.

In Heidelberg you follow this successful model and just won the first partners. A total of 17 companies, including cafés, pubs and hotels, are included from the start, such as Heidelberg Marketing In addition, six public toilet facilities are already available in the old town, and with two newly opened toilets in the Friedrich-Ebert-Platz underground car park, there are now a total of 25 publicly accessible toilets-ideal for visitors who are looking for a clean and accessible option during their stay to meet their emergency. These facilities are evenly distributed over the city center, so that you never have to walk far to the next toilet.

funding and support

The city of Heidelberg takes over the financing of this action and ensures the necessary coordination. Each participating company not only receives a monthly grant of 50 euros for the provision and cleaning of the toilet, but also additional funds for disabled toilets and changing tables for parents with young children. The project is initially designed for one year with the aim of permanently establishing the "nice toilets" in Heidelberg if successful and thus further improving public hygiene.
