The sheet metal is back: sculpture shines again in Görlitz!
Görlitz, Deutschland - In the old town of Görlitz, the iconic metal sculpture "Blechner" has recaptured its place. As Sächsische.de reports, the sculpture was set up on Saturday afternoon after it disappeared at the end of November 2022. The figure, which was originally set up in 1993 as an advertising medium for the "Glashaus" restaurant at the entrance to the Schwarzen Strasse, was a landmark of the city for around 30 years.
On social media, Photoshop pictures had previously circulated that showed the “Blechner” in different locations worldwide, including a scrap site in Poland, Amsterdam and even a Caribbean island. After the property disappeared, it was now known that a "unnoted patron" together with Uwe Lehmann, the original creator of the sculpture, and the wood designer René Jaekel worked on restoring. Jaekel also designed a carved wooden book that will be held by the "Blechner" in the future and contains information about the opening hours and the menu of the newly opened "Salü" restaurant.
rebirth of the figure
The reorganization of the "Blechner" took place shortly before Jörg Daubner, the new owner of the "Salü", opened the restaurant for the first time. The previous owner Tobias Göhlich had handed over the pub at the turn of the year. The figure itself is located on the confluence of the Schwarzen Straße and Brüderstraße in Görlitz and was created in 1993 by Uwe Lehmann. The name "Blechner" is an allusion to Matthias Lechner, the then mayor of Görlitz, and was created by a survey in a local newspaper.
This will continue to act as advertising media for the restaurant, which has reorganized and wants to bring a breath of fresh air to Görlitz gastronomy, as well as Outdooractive documented.
