On April 2, 2025, VfB Stuttgart reached the final of the DFB Cup. In a thrilling semi-final, Stuttgart defeated RB Leipzig 3-1 in the MHPArena and were able to secure their place in the final on May 24th in Berlin.
The game started with an early lead for Stuttgart when Angelo Stiller scored with a half-volley from 20 meters from a corner in the 6th minute. Leipzig had two great chances to equalize in the 15th minute, but they were thwarted by Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, who put in an outstanding performance. Nübel parried shots from Lois Openda several times and remained in top form until the second half.
Match winner Woltemade
Young striker Nick Woltemade played a key role in the victory. After a one-two with Ermedin Demirovic, he made it 2-0 for Stuttgart in the 57th minute. Although Benjamin Sesko made it 2-1 for Leipzig in the 62nd minute, Jamie Leweling made the final score 3-1 in the 73rd minute after converting a header from Woltemade.
Leipzig's final offensive came too late. In the 87th minute, Sesko hit the crossbar and Openda's follow-up shot was blocked by Jeltsch. Stuttgart survived the last few minutes and secured victory over time.

Stuttgart will face Arminia Bielefeld in the final, who beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1. This is Stuttgart's first final appearance since the 2012-13 season. Over the course of the club's history, VfB Stuttgart has won the DFB Cup several times, most recently in 1997. A win against Bielefeld would mean another great success for the traditional club.
