Salzburg's ice hockey heroes storm into the playoffs - 4-1 against Berlin!

EC Red Bull Salzburg secured another significant victory in the Champions Hockey League on October 15, 2025. In the last game of the regular season, Salzburg clearly won 4-1 against the Eisbären Berlin. With this success, they not only qualified for the playoffs, but also created an excellent starting position for the upcoming games.

The victory over Berlin was an important step: Salzburg met ERC Ingolstadt in the playoff quarter-finals. Corcoran made it 1-0 in the power play in the fourth minute. Despite being briefly outnumbered after a two-minute penalty against Thaler in the 14th minute, head coach Oliver David's team managed to maintain the pressure and stabilize the defense. In the 22nd minute, Nienhuis extended the lead to 2-0, supported by Coe.

Fast goals and strong defense

A quick connection from Berlin through Bergmann initially set the tone for the game to be tense, but Salzburg proved its dominance. With two more goals from Huber and Schneider in the 31st and 32nd minutes, the game was almost decided. Even when Nissner received a penalty in the 49th minute, the team showed its strength in penalty killing and kept the final score of 4-1 until the end.

This playoff qualification is remarkable: it is the ninth place in the playoffs in ten attempts. Last season Salzburg reached the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by BK Färjestads. With the experience from last season and the strong performances throughout the tournament, Salzburg will try to make further progress this season.

Confidence on the ice

Salzburg traveled to the final games of the regular season with a lot of self-confidence. The team was in excellent form with three consecutive wins in the Champions Hockey League and four wins in the league. In the game against Växjö, the Red Bulls showed no weakness, even when they were behind in the 17th minute. Thanks to goals from Thaler, Schneider and Murphy in the last ten minutes of the game, they won 3-1 and thus also qualified for the playoffs.

A new structure will be introduced for the upcoming 2025/26 season, which begins on August 28, 2025. 24 teams will play against six different opponents, and the top 16 will qualify for the playoffs, which will begin on November 11, 2025 and last until the final, scheduled for March 3, 2026. Salzburg will certainly be looking to continue their previous success in the Champions Hockey League.

With the convincing performance in the regular season and the upcoming challenges in the playoffs, EC Red Bull Salzburg has an exciting time ahead of it that will keep ice hockey fans on the edge of their seats.
