East Germany's auto industry: specialist conference on January 27th in Berlin!

East Germany is strongly dependent on the auto industry. According to current statistics, every fourth industrial workplace in the region depends on this industry, while in West Germany only one tenth work is affected. Against this background, the IG Metall will organize a conference in Berlin on January 27, 2025 under the title "East Germany needs auto industry".

The conference takes place in Berlin from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in IG Metall-Haus, Alte Jakobstraße 14. The venue is not barrier -free. Various experts from production, science, business and politics will take part in the conference and discuss central results as well as fields of action in the auto industry in East Germany.

The program includes an economic policy impulse by Tom Krebs, professor of macroeconomics and economic policy at the University of Mannheim, as well as two panel discussions. In the first round of discussion, the political framework for a successful East German vehicle industry is discussed. Participants in this round are Carsten Schneider, Dirk Schulze and Daniel Kolbe from the DGB Saxony. The second round of discussion deals with the use of the location advantages of East Germany, in which Robert Pastor and Christoph Hahn from IG Metall district management will take part.

For works councils and members of youth and trainees representatives, it is important to know that the conference meets the requirements for exemption according to § 37 Paragraph 6 BetrVG.
