Austria's ice hockey team: fight for the World Cup quarter-finals in Stockholm!
The Ice Hockey World Championship 2025 is currently in full swing and will take place in Sweden and Denmark from May 9th to 25th. The host has provided the arena in Stockholm and Herning for the various groups and knockout rounds. At this major sporting event, 16 nations play for the title, with the final for May 25th in Stockholm. The focus is particularly on the Austrian national team (ÖEHV), which will meet seven opponents in Group A, which is held in Stockholm: France, Slovakia, Latvia, Slovenia (promoted), Finland, Sweden and Canada.

The next challenges will be on May 15th with the game against Switzerland, followed by the encounter against the USA on May 17 and another duel on May 19 against the Czech Republic. On May 20, they patter against Denmark.

ice hockey is enjoying growing popularity in Germany. According to Statista, an impressive number of 4.9 million Germans are interested in the sport. The number of members in the German Ice Hockey Association (DEB) rose to around 25,900 in 2024. There is also a positive trend in the highest division, the German ice hockey league (DEL). Eisbären Berlin celebrated its eleventh championship title this year and is one of the league leadership.
The eternal table of the DEL is led by the Adler Mannheim, followed by the Eisbären Berlin and the Cologne sharks. The audience interest in the DEL is rising, with an average viewer of almost 7,800 per game last season, compared to only 5,900 in the season before. Leon Draisaitl, the most successful German ice hockey player in the NHL, ensures further upwind and increasing interest in the sport in Germany.
