New elections in Kaufbeuren: City administration under pressure before the holidays!

The political landscape in Germany is upside down! After the sudden break in the traffic light coalition, preparations for early elections in Kaufbeuren must be in full swing. Bruno Dangel, the city's returning officer, provides insights into the challenges posed by this unexpected turn of events. The election originally scheduled for September 28, 2025 is now in jeopardy and the city administration must act quickly to mobilize voters in a timely manner.

The clock is ticking! Dangel explains that the deadlines for the new elections are shorter, which means that the publication of the candidate lists and the application for postal voting documents must be done quickly. "We have to get busy now to prepare for the election. Mistakes can't happen with such a tight schedule," he warns. The city administration has already held initial discussions and is waiting for feedback from printing companies to ensure that enough election materials can be provided.

Election workers and candidates: A race against time

The search for election workers is also in full swing. Dangel reports that of the 350 helpers needed, the majority come from the city administration. A holiday ban has already been lifted to avoid bottlenecks. “The beginning of the year is not the classic holiday season, and we are not hoping for a flu epidemic,” he adds. But time is of the essence as parties need to quickly hold nomination events and draw up their lists before deadlines expire.

There is great political uncertainty and the parties are under pressure. The Chancellor will soon ask for a vote of confidence, and if there is a vote of no confidence, new elections must take place within 60 days of the dissolution of the Bundestag. In Kaufbeuren, around 33,000 eligible voters are called upon to cast their votes, and the city administration is determined to carry out the election successfully despite the challenges.
