Hamas wants direct conversations with the USA, accuses Trump hypocrisy

A ranked member of Hamas in Gaza has US Donald Trump accused of showing “rough double standards” in his demand for the immediate release of hostages that are still recorded in Gaza. In conversation with CNN, however, he explained that the direct discussions of Hamas aimed at achieving stability in the region with US officials.

direct conversations between Hamas and the USA

Mushir al-Masri commented on an interview with CNN from Gaza after the White House had confirmed that it was negotiating directly with Hamas to secure hostages in Gaza. This is a break with a long-term US policy not to have any discussions with groups that are classified as terrorist organizations.

ceasefire and auxiliary blocks

The recent statements come at a critical time because the ceasefire in Gaza is extremely fragile. Israel has blocked crucial aid deliveries to the area to put pressure on Hamas, to withdraw her rejection of a revised proposal to extend the ceasefire.

stability in the region

Masri emphasized to CNN that "all meetings with the American side aim to achieve stability in the region, to end the war in the Gaza Strip and to stop the aggression against our Palestinian people." He added that "stability can only be achieved by an agreement with Hamas" and believes that the talks with the United States serve this goal.

high hostage and negotiations

Since the terrorist attack on October 7, Israel has rejected direct talks with Hamas and committed to eliminating the group. After the discussions between the USA and the militant group became known, Israel noticed that it "communicated its position on direct conversations with Hamas" to the United States, but without revealing more details.

ready for negotiations?

Masri explained that Hamas would like to clarify the question of American-Israeli hostages in Gaza in order to begin negotiations on the second phase of the ceasefire, in which the remaining hostages are to be released in exchange for a sustainable end of the fights.

American hostages in Gaza

At the moment it is assumed that only a living American hostage, Edan Alexander is still recorded. The group also holds four deceased Americans. At least 12 US Israelis were reported on October 7th.

efforts to end the violence

Masri criticized that trump "talks about Israeli prisoners who only make up a few dozen while he ignores the almost 10,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons." Despite the talks between Hamas and the USA, Trump has no departure from his threats to Hamas. So on Thursday he posted on his truth social account that Hamas should release all hostages immediately or that there would be "devil's stuff".

US military actions in Gaza?

The US special representative for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, showed through on Thursday that American military actions in Gaza may be imminent. He told the reporters in the White House that it was "uncertain" what would happen if Hamas does not fulfill the American demands for the release of hostages.

neutrality required as a mediator

Masri, who is also a member of the Palestinian legislative council and represents North Gaza, expressed that Trump's recent threats "aimed to offer the crew a safe guise to commit further genocidal acts against the Palestinian people". He asked the Trump administration not to become an "image" of the bid administration in their support for Israel.

Masri emphasized: "It is fundamental that a mediator remains neutral, stands in the middle and works to bridge the gap between the parties ... Unfortunately we do not see this from the US administration."

He claimed that "the US administration positions itself as part of the conflict through its obvious bias against Israel instead of acting as a mediator." The conclusion is that "threats and intimidation will not be effective. Trying to drive people in Gaza violently are in vain." Trump has repeatedly demanded that the Palestinian population in Gaza have to leave the area so that the United States can take over it and build a "Riviera on the Mediterranean".
