Jocher disappointed: anger and frustration after the Super-G debacle in Val Gardena!

In an exciting Super-G in Val Gardena, Italian skier Mattia Casse won by just a hundredth of a second over American Jared Goldberg. Casse set the best time of 1:28.23 minutes in the soft snow, proving that he mastered the demanding route under changing lighting conditions and high speeds. “The slope is good, not that hard,” remarked Casse after his triumph.

But not all athletes were able to achieve their performance. Simon Jocher from Schongau, who went into the race with high expectations, failed early after a serious driving error. The 28-year-old got off to a promising start and was initially doing well in the race, but had to give up after 25 seconds, which visibly frustrated him. “I'm absolutely mad at myself,” he said afterwards, while ARD expert Felix Neureuther praised his efforts and noted that a top result would have been possible that day.

Debut and surprises

A ray of hope for the German ski aces was 22-year-old Luis Vogt, who finished 16th with a strong performance and thus collected points. World Cup debutant Maximilian Schwarz lined up between the stronger riders and ended up in 56th place, even after he didn't let an unorthodox jump bother him. Jocher and Schwarz continue to offer hope to the German ski team, even if the last few years have seen no locals on the podium in Val Gardena since Josef Ferstl's victory in 2017.

The competition was also marred by a crash by Austrian Daniel Danklmeier, which resulted in the race being interrupted. Nevertheless, the fascination of the Super-G remains in Val Gardena, where the infamous camel humps are also largely avoided, but the challenges of the route should not be underestimated.
