Stau-chaos on Easter weekend: Mega events and travel wave in sight!
Stau-chaos on Easter weekend: Mega events and travel wave in sight!
With the beginning of the Easter holidays in Austria on April 11, 2025, the ARBÖ expects a traffic -intensive weekend. Massive traffic jams and disabilities should occur on the streets, especially from Friday and Saturday. This situation is additionally tightened by two major events in Vienna and Linz. In Vienna there is a concert by Twenty One Pilots in the town hall, while the marathon is held in Linz. These events attract numerous visitors and significantly increase the traffic load.
The first wave of travel is rolling up from Friday afternoon, reinforced by the commuter volume. In particular, affected routes, such as the A23 (Southeast Tangent), the A4 (Ostutobahn) and the A2 (Südautobahn), will have numerous delays during this time. The ARBÖ states that traffic jams can already be expected from the Prater node and up to the border near Nickelsdorf. High traffic loads are also to be expected in city traffic, especially in Vienna, Graz, Linz and Salzburg.
events and roadblocks
On Saturday, April 12, 2025, the Linz Marathon will be held next to the Junior Marathon event. During this period, roadblocks occur, including on the A7 between Prinz-Eugen-Straße and Treffling and the Nibelungenbrücke, which is completely blocked. Linz AG's public transport is affected by diversions and failures, which entails additional challenges for travelers.
On Sunday, April 13, the traffic situation will not relax before Sunday afternoon. The concert of the Twenty One Pilots in Vienna leads to long delays around the town hall, especially on the new building belt and Hütteldorfer Straße. Travelers are recommended to avoid car journeys on Friday and Saturday and to use public transport if necessary.
forecasts and recommendations
The traffic situation is also complicated by construction sites and a high number of travelers from Germany. The Easter holidays also begin in nine German federal states, including Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia. This could further tighten the traffic jam situation, since from Saturday the second travel wave towards the west will be particularly stressed.
the ARBÖ advises to start early, plan breaks and avoid the main traffic times. Long waiting times can be expected on several main traffic routes in Vienna, such as the A22, A23, A4, A2, and A1. For travelers, the high volume of traffic is imminent during the entire holiday season, which makes careful planning of the trips essential to enjoy stress -free holidays.
