Onset of winter in Bavaria: snowfall and slippery conditions warn of danger!

Winter is returning with full force in Bavaria! A massive onset of winter causes significantly falling temperatures and heavy snowfalls, as the weather experts from the German Weather Service (DWD) regularly emphasize. The southern regions and the Bavarian Forest are particularly affected, where the first ice warnings were issued on Saturday. The DWD reports that slippery conditions due to fresh snow and freezing wet conditions are expected in the affected areas on Sunday morning. These wintry conditions extend to lower elevations, with new snow totals of up to 10 centimeters in the Alps and smaller amounts in surrounding regions, it is reported Merkur.de.

The DWD points out that temperatures will drop to minus seven degrees in the Alpine valleys on Sunday night, while minus three degrees are expected in the state capital Munich. Snow activity will subside in the southern parts of Upper Bavaria by midday Friday, but there will still be isolated snow showers on Saturday. Even if the winter plug-ins dominate the picture, meteorologist Lorenz from BR emphasizes that an onset of winter is absolutely normal at this time of year. The intense weather shift is caused by a “bomb cyclone”, a strong hurricane, which is already causing unsettled weather west of the British Isles and could also bring temporary stormy gusts in Germany. This could nevertheless lead to a decrease in snowfall and milder temperatures, which BR.de reported.

Be careful on the roads!
