Klagenfurt celebrates queer life: humor, stories and resistance!

In the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, a theater project is on the program from April 12 to May 23, 2025, which offers queer people a large stage. The piece, staged by NOAM Brusilovsky, combines humorous and educational elements and addresses the life of LGBT (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans- and intersex people), which is often shaped by fear and shame, but also by love and joie de vivre. During the piece, Carinthia clichés are treated in a humorous way. The event is moderated by Brigitte Soucek and Kristof Gellen, who share personal stories, which gives the audience additional insights.

A special highlight is Klara Mydia, a drag queen that sweeps the audience with her shrill entertainment. Fabienne Velina's music, on the other hand, provides thoughtful moments. Actors like Enis Husic, Matthias Winkler and Mika Janez Palmisano share emotionally charged (escape) stories that touch the viewer. However, the frame act of the queer village in the Karawanken receives criticism because it is perceived as weak. Interested parties are invited to visit the performances on April 16, April 22, and on 7, 10, 16, 20 and 23, 2025.

support from national initiatives

The appearance in the Klagenfurt city theater takes place against the background of a broader social movement. The Federal Government has announced a cross -departmental national campaign plan for acceptance and protection of sexual and gender diversity. The aim of this plan is to make a decisive impact on queer hostility. The action plan, called "Queer Life", was decided on November 18, 2022 and is financially supported. Planned measures include the promotion of education at schools and in youth work as well as the strengthening of offers for older LSBTI.

In addition, the Federal Foundation Magnus Hirschfeld is permanently secured in the federal budget. In the future, the police and the federal states' police should also grasp hate crime against queer people separately. To improve the legal position of queer people, a draft law to revise the sanction law is also presented.

Bayern relies on its own measures

parallel to these efforts in Austria, Bavaria also starts an action plan to strengthen the rights of queer people. Minister of Social Affairs Ulrike Scharf (CSU) emphasizes that a self -determined and equal life should be made possible in Bavaria, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. While Bavaria was the only federal state without a comprehensive action plan, Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) announced its introduction in March 2025.

The Bavarian Action Plan includes the expansion of advisory services and training measures for specialists. In addition, companies are to be supported with diversity plans and local initiatives are to be networked. The Landtag Greens also welcomed the plan, but criticize the lack of broad support within the government coalition and demand concrete measures in areas such as education, police, sports and health.

Overall, there are great steps in both Carinthia as well as at the national level and in Bavaria to strengthen and promote visibility and right -wing queer people. In view of the challenges, including threats and hate slogans that follow the theater performances, it is more important than ever to put solidarity and empathy in the foreground.
