Peace light brings hope to Tacherting: ceremonial handover inspires!

In the small community of Tacherting in Bavaria, a special celebration to receive the Peace Light took place on Friday evening, December 20, 2024. A delegation from the youth fire department, led by youth warden Sophia Reichtalhammer and mayor Werner Disterer, traveled to Tittmoning to receive the important light from Bethlehem. For 25 years, young people from Upper Austria have been maintaining this tradition by bringing light to their Bavarian neighbors. The arrival of the peace light was celebrated in an emotional ceremony at the fire station, where Mayor Disterer praised the event as a “great thing” and thanked the fire department youth for their tireless efforts to distribute this light. Citizens can pick up the peace light from the Tacherting fire station until December 24th to take it to their homes, as on fireworld.at was reported.

A sign of hope

As part of the ceremonial handover of the peace light in Tittmoning, which began with a service in the St. Laurentius collegiate church, numerous firefighters from the Braunau district expressed their solidarity. The invitees welcomed the fire brigade delegations and asked them to take good care of the light that symbolizes the important message of peace. The dean of the monastery, Gerhard Gumpinger, warned that the current global political situation, characterized by conflicts and crises, underlines the importance of the peace light. “You have to protect it when you pass it on to people,” he urged those present. District fire chief Christof Grundner noted that the light is a powerful symbol that offers hope in difficult times. “Firemen and women provide encouragement in times of crisis,” he explained kreisfeuerwehrverband-traunstein.de.

The peace light is not only distributed, but also seen as an appeal to the community to maintain peace and actively work for better coexistence. The current conflicts in the world make it all the more important to emphasize the great importance of peace and to work together for it. The event in Tacherting and the service in Tittmoning became significant moments that strengthened solidarity among the fire department members and the entire community.
