Hedgehog in danger: How to protect the spiky garden dwellers!

Erding, Deutschland - alarm level red for the hedgehogs! Robotic robots and basement shafts are a great danger for the spiky garden residents. The BUND Naturschutz (BN) has now launched a workshop to inform nature lovers about the protection of hedgehogs. On November 5th at 7:30 p.m., Wildlife expert Michaela Maier from the Erding Animal Welfare Association will show how everyone can help. Hedgehog children are now on the road and urgently need support!

Important data for animal protection

In order to monitor the hedgehog stands, Pro Igel e.V. and the BUND nature conservation start a comprehensive hedgehog registration. Everyone can participate and collect valuable data about the animals. "Hedgehogs are increasingly at risk, which makes their recording and monitoring particularly important," emphasizes BN project manager Martina Gehret. Participation is child's play: hedgehogs can be spotted and reported via the platform. As an additional incentive, there is the "hedgehog challenge", in which the best photographers of Igeln can win great prizes!

Not only does participation in the challenge count! Garden owners are asked to make their gardens hedgehog -friendly. "Moreal robots should only work or better leave during the day," warns Sabine Lanzner from the BN district office of Erding. In addition, basement shafts should be covered to protect the hedgehog children. Drivers are also called up to be vigilant, because many hedgehogs are now on the roads. The BN recommends creating hedgehog crossings in fences so that the animals can get from garden to garden.

When do the little spiked animals need help? During the day, creeping hedgehog mugs who are traveling without their mother require immediate support. Healthy boy, on the other hand, will be active at night from October. If you meet a hedgehog, you should be careful and wear gloves to protect yourself and the animals. In rare cases, hedgehogs can be infected with the dangerous borna virus. Protecting the hedgehog is now more important than ever - everyone can help!
