Theaterstraße, 86150 Augsburg, Deutschland - In Augsburg, the renovation of the State Theater faces considerable challenges. Massive water damage occurred at the beginning of April, the exact consequences of which are currently still being determined. According to Kleine Zeitung Urge water into the listed large house after a water pipe break in theater road was documented. The professional fire brigade had to move to pump out parts of the basement.
The city of Augsburg plans to cover the costs for the damage caused by their insurance. Nevertheless, it remains unclear whether the water entry will lead to further delays on the construction site. Urban construction officer Steffen Kercher has already announced that further investigations have to be waited for in order to clarify the exact effects. At the moment he sees no danger to the building itself, since there are no signs of underwooling.

The renovation costs for the Augsburg State Theater have now increased to over 400 million euros. Originally, the costs were estimated at 186 million euros in 2016, which now means an increase of 231 million euros. Those responsible now assume almost 420 million euros, as
The planned completion of the renovation work has shifted to 2030. Around 200 workers are currently working on the construction site. The condition of the construction site is currently described as stable, without unpleasant surprises. However, the cultural officer Jürgen Enninger makes it clear that there is no alternative to continuing the construction work, since the project is not possible for technical and political reasons. The Free State of Bavaria bears 75 percent of the eligible costs, which corresponds to approx. 54 to 56 percent of the total costs.
The financial burdens for the city are expected to continue to increase in the household years 2027 and 2028, since additional reserves and loans are required for the renovation. The ongoing alternative quarters of the theater also cause annual costs of around 1.4 million euros. In view of all of these factors, City Councilor Roland Wegner expressed concerns in a press release and demanded that the construction work immediately be discontinued, considering the record debt and increasing construction prices in Augsburg.
