On December 9, 2024, shortly after 8:30 a.m., a devastating fire broke out in an apartment on Walter-Heim-Straße in Augsburg. Heavy smoke was already visible on the way to the scene, which indicated the drama of the situation. The Augsburg professional fire department used a so-called “pincer attack” to fight the flames from several sides. One person was able to get to safety in time and was taken to hospital for further medical treatment.

A total of 31 firefighters and 9 emergency vehicles were deployed to extinguish the fire. Fighting the fire took about 20 minutes as firefighters fought their way through the fire-affected apartment using breathing apparatus and compressed air foam pipes. The fire brigade was able to prevent major damage thanks to their quick intervention Augsburger Allgemeine reported. An inspection with thermal imaging cameras ensured that no embers remained. The fire damage is estimated at a five-figure amount, although further investigations into the exact amount of damage and the cause of the fire are still underway.
