Heroic deed in Augsburg: Fire brigade saves head -over -hanging wheelchair users!

On Sunday, May 18, 2025, the Augsburg professional fire brigade experienced an extraordinary commitment in Lechhausen West. Around 7:00 p.m., the emergency call received that an electric wheelchair user fell down a steep embankment and has a head over. The situation was critical because the patient threatened to continue to fall. The integrated control center Augsburg immediately alerted the fire brigade rescue group.

The use of a total of seven vehicles and around 18 emergency services were used. The wheelchair user was fixed in his heavy electric wheelchair and could not be released independently.

In order to stabilize the situation, the emergency services immediately secured the patient and the wheelchair with a linen to prevent the situation from deteriorating. After the fuse was completed, the pulley, rescue board, ropes and the muscle strength of the height rescuers were used to provide care for the patient.

The height rescue is a special discipline that is known in Germany under the term "special rescue from heights and depths (SRHT)". This type of rescue not only includes medical care, but also the evacuation of people from difficult to access. Emergency services such as the professional fire brigade, the technical relief organization (THW) or the mountain rescue service are specially trained for this and work with multiple security systems to ensure the safety of everyone involved, as explained on the Kilian rescue website.

medical care on site

After the patient was liberated, he was immediately examined by the emergency services present and an emergency doctor. Fortunately, it turned out that the patient had not suffered any injuries. He was able to leave the site independently and safely with his supervisor.

The emergency number for life-threatening situations, also for similar missions, is 112. The rescue control center accepts calls and coordinates the required ambulances such as ambulances, emergency doctors, fire brigade or mountain and water rescue. It is important that the caller has the five WS ready: Where is the event, who calls, what happened, how many affected people are there and that he is waiting for questions to optimally inform the rescue workers. This procedure is recommended by BRK Augsburg

This successful and coordinated rescue operation once again shows the special skills and the commitment of the emergency services, which are available in an emergency to help people in emergencies.
