Gladbach before winter transfers: who goes, who stays?

Borussia Mönchengladbach's winter transfers face uncertain times. Loud tz.de Although the club did not rule out possible new additions, sports director Roland Virkus was cautious about the transfers. He emphasized that reinforcements are only necessary if no progress can be made with the 15 to 16 top players in the squad.

An “anticipation of the summer transfer period” could be considered if good offers arise in the short term. Two players, Kevin Diks from FC Copenhagen and Rubén Vargas from FC Augsburg, are currently tied to their clubs until the end of the season. The winter transfer window represents the last opportunity to secure a transfer fee for these players, as they would be free in the summer. According to the Spanish portal Relevo, Vargas is being traded as a possible new signing for Sevilla FC, where those in charge are very confident about a transfer.

Rumors and offers

Negotiations between Sevilla and Augsburg regarding Vargas are already advanced, with a transfer fee of around three million euros being discussed. Vargas could sign a five-year contract in Sevilla and meet former Bundesliga players such as Tanguy Nianzou and Djibril Sow. In December, Sky Sport also provided information about talks between Gladbach and Vargas, in which initial salary expectations were exchanged.

Meanwhile, Nico Elvedi receives an offer from Leeds United, where ex-Borussia coach Daniel Farke works. Elvedi, who has a contract until 2027, could move if there is a suitable offer after he was assured of such a move when he extended his contract in September 2023. Leeds are offering a transfer fee of twelve million euros, but Virkus sees the retention of regular players as a priority.

Other players mentioned in the transfer are Tomas Cvancara and Nathan Ngoumou. Cvancara, whose contract runs until 2028, could be available for around €10 million, while Ngoumou has interest from Fenerbahce. Virkus hopes that Gladbach can achieve around 20 million euros for the two of them together. Kevin Diks, on the other hand, could move to Gladbach under certain circumstances, provided another defensive player like Elvedi or Marvin Friedrich leaves the club.

In the complex transfer situation, Gladbach and those responsible are facing a crucial phase in which both strategic and financial aspects must be taken into account in order to make the right decision.
