On Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024, a major fire brigade operation was triggered at Emskirchen train station after the fire alarm system of an ICE train was activated. At around 5:30 p.m., the Ansbach control center alerted the emergency services when suddenly there was a smell of fire in the air and the alarm went off in the rear railcar of the train nordbayern.de reported.
A total of around 100 firefighters were on site, including the fire departments from Emskirchen, Wilhelmsdorf, Mausdorf, Hagenbüchach and Neustadt an der Aisch. While a team wearing respiratory protection checked the railcar, the passengers in the other part of the train were evacuated. The train was then maneuvered back to Emskirchen, where the affected section was disconnected. The Red Cross cycled to the area with several rescue vehicles, supported by the police, who were also present to manage the situation, according to infranken.de.
Intensive controls and quick measures
The fire department's quick response prevented anything worse from happening. The BRK provided several rescue vehicles, including two ambulances and an emergency doctor. Supported by emergency management assistants and a transport rapid response group, the area was secured and the evacuated passengers were helped to transfer to another part of the train. After a short deployment at the train station, the remaining fire brigades began their journey back to their locations. In the meantime, the fire brigade and rescue workers remained on standby in order to be able to react quickly to any complications.
