New Year's Concert: Young guitar talents inspire in Neustadt!
On January 4, 2025, a New Year's concert took place in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, organized by the Baden-Württemberg Youth Guitar Orchestra and the student Gitaar Ensemble Nederland. The event took place at the St. Bernard Community Center and presented a varied program that included works by well-known composers such as Albéniz, Villa-Lobos and Rameau Meeting point Palatinate reported.
The youth guitar orchestra opened the concert with “Mediterranean Spark” by Peppino D’Agostino. The program also included a three-movement guitar concerto by Heitor Villa-Lobos, followed by compositions by the two composers Erika Vega and Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber in the first part. The second part focused on Latin American music, especially tango, and included the use of the accordion. The finale was a joint performance by both orchestras, which was recognized with long-lasting applause for the musicians and musical directors.
Special features of the orchestra
The Baden-Württemberg Youth Guitar Orchestra, consisting of around 25 members aged 14 to 26, has many winners of the “Jugend musiziert” competition in its ranks. Under the direction of Helmut Oesterreich and Christian Wernicke, the orchestra showcases a wide range of talent and an extensive repertoire. In comparison, the Student Gitaar Ensemble Nederland was founded in 2014 and consists of (former) classical guitar students in the Netherlands. Susana Opanski leads this ensemble.
How Stadsherstel further reported, the concert evening was part of the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the student Gitaar Ensemble Nederland. The event also marks the start of a concert tour by the youth guitar orchestra in the Netherlands. Both orchestras bring together young guitarists from Germany and the Netherlands and offer a program that ranges from the Renaissance to contemporary music, including the works of Teleman and Mozart.
