ZF secures mega order for revolutionary brake systems!
Friedrichshafen, Deutschland - On January 8, 2025, ZF Friedrichshafen AG pulled a major large order for electromechanical brake systems ashore. The deal was announced in Las Vegas during the CES 2025 and affects almost five million vehicles that are equipped with the new ZF brake systems. The order comes from a "worldwide leading vehicle manufacturer", but the name of which was not published.
The order includes the development of an electromechanical brake, by-wire technology on the rear wheels, integrated brake control (Integrated Brake Control, IBC) and traditional brake calipers for the front axle. This hybrid brake system enables the vehicle manufacturer more flexibility and integrates both modern technologies and proven systems.
innovations in brake and steering technology
The electromechanical brake is part of the future-oriented "brake-by-wire technology". This technology allows potentially autonomous brakes and steer in critical situations, since the braking force is no longer generated hydraulically, but by electric motors on each wheel. The brake signals are electrically transmitted from the pedal to the electric motors.
The agreement also provides for ZFS electro-mechanical ball circulation steering. This combination of modern braking technology, traditional brake systems and innovative steering strengthens ZFS position as a leading company in the industry. ZF has merged all technologies for steering, braking and damping systems within the Chassis Solutions division and thus offers holistic solutions and advanced technology.
ZF clearly positions itself on the way to software-defined vehicles, whereby the central electro-mechanical brake (EMB) and the integrated brake control IBC represent a significant part of this transformation. With over 50 years of experience in the development of brake systems and more than three billion brake components, ZF already has a strong market position.
The fusion of the "Active Security Technology" and "PkW chassis technology" divisions, which was carried out in January 2024, serves to optimize resource use and the further strengthening of ZFS position as a top supplier in the global automotive industry.
Further information on this major order and the associated technologies can be found in the reports of Schwäbische.de and ZF-Press .
