Newcomers in the DFB squad: Wück is looking for a breath of fresh air ahead of the European Championships!
National coach Christian Wück made the excitement perfect! For the last two international matches of the year, he called up two fresh faces to the German women's national team: Cora Zicai (19) from SC Freiburg and Alara Şehitler (17) from FC Bayern Munich. These young talents are ready to take the stage and prove themselves in international football. The DFB women will meet in Stuttgart on Monday to prepare for the exciting duels against Switzerland and Italy.
But the line-up also comes with its downsides. The return of Kathrin Hendrich (VfL Wolfsburg) and Ena Mahmutovic is a bright spot, while Ann-Katrin Berger is taking a break after an intense Olympic tournament. Particularly tragic is the absence of Maria-Luisa “Mala” Grohs (FC Bayern Munich), who is out indefinitely due to a malignant tumor. Wück expressed his concern: "Mala's diagnosis moved us all very much. We wish her all the best for her healing journey."
The DFB women are ready to face the European Championship hosts Switzerland on Friday, November 29th at the Letzigrund stadium in Zurich. The last home game of the year against Italy will follow on Monday, December 2nd at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion in Bochum. Wück is optimistic: “We are looking forward to the last two international matches and want to get to know new players so that we can optimally prepare for the European Championships.” Cora Zicai will be in the squad while Shekiera Martinez has been called up. An exciting year for women's football is ahead!
