70 years The Word for Sunday: A review full of hope and inspiration!
Munich - a triple high to 70 years “The Word for Sunday” - an anniversary celebration that has written history! On November 14, 2024, 120 guests of honor gathered in the St. Markus Church to celebrate the remarkable existence of the second oldest television program in Germany. Starting with the first broadcast on May 8, 1954, the program has produced over 3,650 editions to date and reaches around 1.2 million viewers in the first every week.
A truly strong anchor in turbulent times
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier found moving words to honor the meaning of "The Word for Sunday". "The word for Sunday is a success story of 70 years," he announced. With its warm language, the program asks to ask ethical and socially relevant questions and thus gives the audience an urgently needed orientation in a time of linguistic brutalization. "A democracy needs debate, but we have to lead them with respect!", Steinmeier continues.
Church leader praise the valuable contribution
The churches gave a view of the transformative power of the show in the modern world. Bishop Kirsten Fehrs emphasized that at a time full of uncertainty and fear the words on Sunday look like a firm anchor. "Right now we need an inner compass and the thoughtful words of the show give more than ever orientation," she said.
Cardinal Reinhard Marx added that "the word to Sunday" keeps the voice of God awake in society and promotes cohesion. The director of the Bavarian Radio, Dr. Katja Wildermuth, stated: "Pause four minutes and think, once a week, that remains a valuable ritual in this fast -moving world."
From the end of the television programs to the current programming, “The Word for Sunday” follows an eventful story that remains incomparable in today's media scene! Another reason for joy for the spectators who switch on on Saturdays after the daily topics and, in the best case, find profound encouragement. "The word for Sunday" - an irreplaceable part of life for many!
