Smart celebrates comeback: The new #2 as an electromobility trend!

The return of the legendary two -seater is decided: Smart has officially announced the new edition of the Smart Fortwo. Under the name Smart #2, the successor to the popular city car is positioned as a purely electrical model in the A segment. The world premiere of the Smart #2 is planned for the end of 2026, with Europe being the main market for the new vehicle, as [Oekonews] (https://www2.oekonews.at/smart-bestaetigt-- newbest-des-kult-stadtutos+2400+1229207).

The Smart #2 is developed as part of the "Project: Two", which aims to combine the traditional strengths of the brand - maneuverability, compactness and everyday suitability - with modern technology solutions. Sarah Lamboj, CEO of Smart Austria, underlines the importance of the new model for the cityscape and the mobility culture.

Details on the new Smart #2

After the project has completed the feasibility phase, the final development of the Smart #2, which is also to be offered in a coupé and a convertible variant. The production will take place in a Geely plant in the Shanghai region, while the design comes from the Mercedes-Benz design team. The company plans to position the Smart #2 as part of an extended electrical series, which also includes the models Smart #1, #3 and #5, explains mbpassion.

The new model should reach a range of at least 260 km and measure less than 2.70 meters in the total length, with a price in the lower area of the twenty thousand euros. The return of the two-seater illustrates the strategic realignment of the brand and, thanks to the partnership with Geely, offers more flexibility in portfolio design.

E-mobility in the upswing

Developments in Smart come at a time when electromobility in Germany experiences a significant upswing. Experts predict that the market share of the electric cars will increase to 16 percent by 2025 and 28 percent by 2030. This means that almost 30 percent of all new registrations in Germany will be electric vehicles, which corresponds to an annual paragraph of around 900,000 cars, as can be seen from a study by the Center of Automotive Management, which is cited by [Neuelandschaft] (https://neuelandschaft.de/artikel/ --mobilitaet-werd-werd--2030-8682.html).

The growth of e-cars and plug-in hybrids currently shows a low dynamic, but the market share of the electric vehicles continues to increase, from 0.75 percent in 2016 to 2 percent in the current time. Despite the challenges of reach, charging infrastructure and price, the product range for pure electric vehicles is continuously expanded, which significantly improves the opportunities for the new smart model.
