New youth culture center in Wels: A place for creative minds!
Last Thursday, the Offene Kulturverein (OKV) opened a new youth culture center in Wels, at Römerwall 15. This facility was created in an empty municipal building that was transformed through weeks of renovation work. The OKV wants to give young people in particular access to media work and offers modern equipment such as cameras, computers and a recording studio. At the opening, committed young people took the opportunity to conduct interviews with visitors, which resulted in a professional video made in cooperation with MyDistrict was produced. Explained Christoph Brückl, head of the OKV: “The young people were enthusiastic.”
New hotspot for Wels youth culture
The Open Cultural Association aims to create a platform where young people who do not feel like they belong in traditional clubs can become active. The concept was liked by political representatives in Wels, which is why the city is planning financial support of 70,000 euros annually for five years. In addition to the workshops on media work, which will also include topics such as journalism and photography, there are also plans for the young people to self-determine the topics themselves. This information was provided by nachrichten.at confirmed.
The planned “Youth Culture House on the Römerwall” is to be discussed by the Wels Youth Committee this week. Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP) emphasizes that a broad majority can be expected in the local council. The house will contain workshops and creative offerings in the areas of hip-hop and rap, which will particularly appeal to students and young people. The final decision on funding is expected at the upcoming local council meeting on July 8th. Brückl and his team also hope for further support from the state government and the local economy.
