Government corrects errors: Nova for light commercial vehicles falls!
The new federal government brings a breath of fresh air for the Transport industry: From July 1, 2025, the controversial Nova, a levy on light commercial vehicles, will be abolished. Alexander Klacska, chairman of the federal division transport and traffic in the Austria Chamber of Commerce, welcomed this decision, which he believes to be urgently needed for many transport companies. Klacska emphasized that the Nova, originally desired ecological goals to reduce CO2 emissions, were missed. Instead, many companies recorded older vehicles, which led to a decline in new registrations. For example, in 2022 only 33,088 new light commercial vehicles were approved, a decline of almost 45 percent compared to 2021, when there were almost 58,806, such as ots.at reported.
In addition to the cancellation of the Nova, the new government program from ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS also provides for a number of other important measures. Among other things, this includes raising the luxury tangent to 55,000 euros, which is due to come into force from 2027. Klacska also called for a bureaucracy brake to simplify the processes for small and medium -sized companies and to offer them a noticeable relief. This was also mentioned in the program, extremely important for the transport industry, which is increasingly endangered by international competition, whereby many domestic companies are challenged by Eastern European providers. The Ministerial Council was considered to be corrected by an earlier error, which is more than just a monetary problem for the industry, as autoundwirtschaft.at
