New tax for e-cars: It will be so expensive for owners from April!
From April 1st, it will be noticeably more expensive for owners of electric vehicles. With the introduction of an engine-related insurance tax, which is intended to cost around 400 euros per vehicle and year, the new federal government in Vienna reaches into the pocket of the e-car drivers. The "crown" reported that the government plans to take over 60 million euros by taxing electric cars that were previously freed from this tax.
The calculation of this tax is quite complex and varies depending on the vehicle model. Martin Grasslober, a traffic expert from the ÖAMTC, explained that the tax height should be less than 500 euros for many fully electric cars, while the range is between 70 and 2000 euros. For vehicles such as the ŠKODA ENYAQ, additional costs of 480 euros per year can be assumed. In models such as the BMW i4, the annual expenditure even increases to around 530 euros, while the popular Tesla Model Y has expected juicy additional costs of around 950 euros, as the small newspaper reported.
Details for tax calculation
The calculation formula stipulates that the power of an electric vehicle is reduced by 45 kW. For the first 35 kW, 0.25 euros are charged per kW, although the tax load also increases for the owners with increasing weight of the vehicle. In principle, vehicle owners will also have to expect higher taxes for plug-in hybrids and electric motorcycles in the future-but not for e-mopeds that remain excluded from the new regulation.
Martin Grasslober advises you to find out more about future tax burdens when buying a vehicle, since many buyers only find out what costs you will pay when you take out your insurance company. These new regulations could influence the decision to buy an electric vehicle and clearly show that mobility is also more expensive for e-car owners.
More details on the new taxation can be found in the reports of "Krone" and "Kleine Zeitung": Krone , Kleine Zeitung .
