New orientation classes: opportunities and challenges for refugee children!

The Austrian federal government has decided to get a new approach to integrating refugee children into the school system. Orientation classes are now being introduced, as krone.at . These classes should not only bring children closer to the language, but also convey basic values and rules for living together. Education officer Christine Haberlander commented on the challenge of the additional space requirement that is created by this initiative. However, critics ask the question of whether the isolation of these students is actually effective.

In addition to these new classes, refugee children should now learn basic skills before entering German funding classes. This was reported by the Kleinezeitung.at to facilitate integration. The early access to regulate and manage is attempted to offer the children a solid basis for their school career and to accelerate their familiarization in the new environment. These measures could significantly influence the everyday school life for immigrant children and better prepare them for the challenges in the education system.
