Lights out, voices loud: This is how Germany takes part in the Earth Hour!

Wien, Österreich - On March 22, 2025, the WWF Earth Hour will take place for the 19th time - a global symbol for climate protection and environmental protection. Between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., the lights on iconic buildings such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Opera House in Sydney and the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna are switched off. Under the motto "An hour for Earth", not only world -famous landmarks, but also numerous private individuals, companies and cities around the world will actively participate. The WWF program manager Hanna Simons emphasizes the urgency: "We see catastrophic setbacks in climate policy worldwide. The climate crisis is reality and we have to counteract."

a common concern

This year the Earth Hour becomes even more special, because the people in Germany are called to actively participate and raise their voices. The initiative "Your voice for our planet" encourages everyone, whether in private framework or in groups, to sing together and thus set a loud sign for climate and environmental protection. Viviane Raddatz, climate chief at WWF Germany, emphasizes: "In these politically and economically turbulent times, we finally need the right guardrails on the way to a stable future." With a variety of singing events, the public is to make it clear that people stand up for more climate protection and are willing to hear their voices. In Austria, too, the requirement to the future federal government is emphasized to set up a comprehensive climate and nature conservation program, as from the reports of wwf germany and Übonews emerged.

With the Earth Hour, the global community not only sends a sign of solidarity, but also aims to take political decision -makers responsible. Since its foundation in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, the event has developed into one of the largest climate and environmental protection campaigns worldwide and encourages people to actively work for the protection of earth. This year an active participation is required by singing and turning off the lights together to send a strong message to the future government: climate protection is not negotiable, but a necessity.
