In a crucial meeting, the administrative board of AOK Lower Saxony approved a budget for 2025 that amounts to an impressive 17.5 billion euros. Of this, almost 13.8 billion is attributable to health insurance and 3.7 billion to nursing care insurance. The adjustment of the cost-covering additional contribution to 2.7 percent is intended to ensure the competitiveness of the AOK, as CEO Dr. Jürgen Peter emphasizes. This follows a remarkable development: In 2022, AOK Niedersachsen was able to achieve a positive financial result of 51 million euros despite financial challenges. This shows the stability of the market leader, which had over 3 million insured people in the same period and has thus established itself among the top 3 of the 95 nationwide health insurance companies. The market share in Lower Saxony is now rising to 39.6 percent, which underlines the ongoing expansion of AOK AOK Lower Saxony reported.
Stable finances and outlook for 2023
Positive trends are also emerging in the first half of 2023. The increase in insurance shows that despite challenges such as inflation, rising energy costs and the after-effects of the corona crisis, AOK Niedersachsen continues to gain influence. Dr. Jürgen Peter believes that AOK is on the right track to further expand its market leadership. However, the Board of Directors is also calling for more support from federal politicians, especially with regard to reliable financing of statutory health insurance (GKV), as repeated cost increases are feared in various areas. Christoph Meinecke, chairman of the board of directors for the employers' side, criticizes the federal government for the delayed implementation of necessary reforms that could jeopardize competitiveness GKV network thematised.
AOK Niedersachsen, which employs over 6,800 people and is present at over 100 locations in and around Lower Saxony, will continue to play a central role in the region's healthcare system by investing almost 29 million euros every day in the care of its insured persons.
