Tyrol's labor market is changing: More unemployed despite vacancies!

The labor market situation in Tyrol shows mixed developments. As of January 31, 2025, 19,076 people were registered as unemployed in Tyrol, which corresponds to an increase of 1,197 people compared to the previous year - an increase of 6.7 percent. Nevertheless, the unemployment rate remains the lowest in Austria at 4.9 percent dolomitenstadt.at reported. Over three quarters of these unemployed people have been without a job for less than three months, while around 40 percent already have a job confirmation and around 30 percent were most recently employed in the construction industry.

Industry developments and vacancies

In December 2024, 20,489 people were employed in East Tyrol and the unemployment rate was 4.5 percent. It is striking that the number of newly reported vacancies at the AMS Tirol remains largely stable at 6,668, although there are increasing bottlenecks in the health and social services, catering and construction sectors. The development in construction shows a slight increase in employment of 1.0 percent, while the number of employees in trade and industry fell, which once again illustrates the challenge of the shortage of skilled workers tirol.ORF.at notes.

These dynamic changes highlight both the challenges and opportunities in the Tyrolean labor market, where the decline in vacancies in sectors such as retail is clear. The upward movements in certain sectors could indicate an impending stabilization, but the question remains how sustainable this development will be.
