Vocational schools Gelnhausen: First aid for sexual violence!
Gelnhausen. In a courageous step, the Gelnhausen vocational school as the first of its kind in dealing with sexualized violence at work has trained. Under the leadership of an expert from the avalanche and prevention center in Hanau, practical scenarios were developed that shed light on the reality of the trainees in the Main-Kinzig district.
The school emphasizes that border violations often occur in professions with intensive customer contact. Where does the limit between customer orientation and the protection of the trainees? Even in other industries, young people are not immune to inappropriate behavior of superiors or trainers. These alarming conditions raise essential questions that urgently need to be answered.
Sexualized Violence at Work is called two central problems for Trainees
The speaker drew attention to two critical problems: instructors are not obliged to submit an extended certificate of good conduct, which is the case in many other professions. In addition, the unequal power relationship between trainers and trainees often complicates those affected to seek help or to openly address problems. The Gelnhausen vocational schools therefore offer a wide range of support, including school social work, school pastoral care and specially trained teachers as the first contact points for sexual violence.
Since 2019, the school has been intensively involved in sexual violence within the scope of its protection concept work. The participants of all -day training, moderated by school pastor Helga Czysewski, rated the event as insightful and helpful. In order to further illuminate the problem, the working group is planning two prevention days for the end of January, which are specifically dealing with sexual violence in the world of work. External advice centers such as avalanche in Hanau are also available to offer affected girls, boys and women.
