Rainbow parade in Vienna: massive traffic jams and lock over the ring!

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the 29th rainbow parade takes place on Wiener Ringstrasse. This colorful event not only attracts numerous participants, but also has a significant impact on traffic in the capital. The ÖAMTC warns in advance of considerable traffic jams and long waiting times in and around Vienna.

The participants of the parade will gather in front of the town hall from 9:30 a.m. before the parade starts at 12 p.m. The celebrations last until 10 p.m. and end with the arrival of the parade on Rathausplatz between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Throughout the event, ring locks are expected during the entire event, whereby the Franz-Josefs-Kai is one of the most affected streets, since it will not be accessible during the event.

The road user must adjust to several locks and diversions. The first ring lock will come into force at around 8:30 a.m. between Opererngasse and Schottengasse. The parade will pass parliament, the opera, Urania, Franz-Josefs-Kai, the stock exchange and the university before returning to the town hall. During the parade, crossings of the ring are possible, but waiting times must be planned.

The ÖAMTC recommendation for the bypass of the affected area includes the use of the Handelskai, the outer belt and the tangent. The delays will not only be noticeable on the immediate diversion routes, but also on the entire two-line line as well as on the Roßauer Lände, Praterstrasse, the Lower and Oberen Donaustrasse, Rennweg, Prinz-Eugen-Straße, the Wiedner Hauptstraße, the right Vienna line and Burggasse. Delays can also be expected on far -reaching alternative routes, such as the inner belt.

In order to counteract any traffic jams, the ÖAMTC recommends using the subway. In addition, there will be short -term adjustments in tram lines 1, 2, 71 and D as well as on various inner -city bus lines that must either be redirected or led.
