Vienna cycles: new 2.5 km bicycle road for more security!
Seeböckgasse, 1170 Wien, Österreich - On April 7, 2025, the construction was celebrated in Vienna for an important bike connection, which extends over 2.5 kilometers from Hernals Gürtel to Sandleitengasse. The new route, which redesigns Geblergasse and Seeböckgasse, is converted into a comfortable bicycle road. wien.gv.at District heads gave the official starting signal for this project.
As part of this redesign, the Seeböckgasse is declared a bicycle road, whereby motor vehicles are only allowed to drive, but are not allowed to drive through. Modal filters and twisted one -way streets are to be installed for traffic calming. In addition, the sidewalks are widened to ensure the safety of all road users.
environmental protection and green spaces
A special focus is on the environmental aspect of the project. A total of 58 new trees are planted and 1,300 square meters of green beds are created. In addition, 200 square meters of area with seepage -capable pavement are sealed in order to have the rainwater seeped off. A new Pocket Park in front of the House of Mercy is also created, which is equipped with seven new trees and games. There are also drinking fountains and hydrants along the streets to increase quality of stay.
The completion of the wheel connection and the Pocket Park is still planned for 2023. These measures are part of the comprehensive Viennese cycle path offensive, which includes over 250 projects and a route length of 100 kilometers in the main bike path network. Wien.gv.at emphasizes that almost 200 cycle path projects have been launched since 2021, with a total of 130 million euros to the expansion of the cycling structure invested.
health and education in focus
Another positive aspect of the new bike connection is to improve the connection to several educational institutions. There are four kindergartens, a new middle school and two high schools among the facilities that will benefit from this expansion. The direct connection from Geblersergasse to the belt cycle path is further optimized by a cyclist crossing and a zebra crossing with traffic lights, which makes the way for the students more secure.
The initiative to promote cycling already has an effect; The proportion of bike use in Vienna rose from 7 % in 2019 to 11 % in 2024. Bahrradwien.at also provides information about other important projects as part of the bike path offensive 2025, where, among other things, new cycling connections and Bicycle roads will be created in different parts of the city. These developments should not only increase security and comfort for cyclists, but also help to promote environmentally friendly mobility in Vienna.
