Revolate students: glorification of violence is a scandal!
The debate about glorification of violence and the introduction of tuition fees at Austrian universities absorbs. The Association of Socialist Students (VSSTÖ) is criticized for a video in which the alleged murderer Luigi is celebrated. Manuel Grubmüller, chairman of the Juno's students, was outraged by the VSSTÖ's heroic representation of violent criminals and emphasized: "Anyone who heroits violent criminals has lost nothing in the student representative!" The Junos not only demand the deletion of the contribution, but also a public apology from the organization, which is part of the ÖH chair. This behavior represents a "slap in the face of all students", Grubmüller continues.
In parallel, the VSStö starts a campaign against the already announced tuition fees, which are to be introduced according to the plans of the black and blue government. Katharina Embacher, chair of the VSSTÖ, criticizes these measures as "neoliberal politics" that would aim to make education a privilege for wealthy. "The university entrance must be equally accessible to everyone - regardless of gender or social origin," said Embacher. The campaign entitled "Will actively against tuition fees" should encourage students to defend themselves against the financial burden of their training and to fight for open access to education. The introduction of tuition fees remains a controversial topic, especially among students, while the Junos advocate a fee survey. These two topics - the glorification of violence and the financing issues of university formation - illustrate the tensions within the student representative. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop and which measures are ultimately taken to respond to the allegations and the rejection of the tuition fees.
