As part of a festive tradition, the Sternsinger are traveling in the Vulkaneifel on January 5, 2025. In Gerolstein, the star singers were welcomed by Mayor Stefanie Lorisch and VG Mayor Hans Peter Böffgen in the town hall. The children, disguised as the three kings, brought their message with a blessing and song lectures.
The performances were accompanied by Annette Schlüter, a parish officer, and Sonja Schneider. Lorinically thanked the star singers and praised the children's commitment. She also expressed that the city of Gerolstein can use the blessing well. The disguised star singers include Felix Reck, Emil Reinarz, Lucia Nägel, Elias Ngel, Vera Luja and Karma Tataru.
tradition and purpose of star singing
The star singers move through the community by January 6th and collect money for charitable purposes to support children in need. The tradition of star singing is cultivated by children who, as the three kings, pull disguised from house to house. As on christmas.org , they distribute blessings and collect donations for development projects worldwide, especially for disadvantaged children in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
tradition embodies the starter from the East, which found the child of Jesus. Originally introduced by the Catholic Church, the star singing combines the fun of the Christmas season with the help of the needy. In many regions, the star singing begins after Christmas and lasts until the end of January. In addition, the star singers often leave chalk marks over the doors that represent a blessing and show the year.
The star singing differs in a materialistic period by the participation of children and the focus on charity and compassion. It is an act of community, education and empathy.
