ÖVP candidate Mahrer: Vienna needs political balance and solutions!

Wien, Österreich - On April 27, 2025, the Vienna municipal council and district representative elections take place. ÖVP top candidate Karl Mahrer puts great hopes in the upcoming elections and is optimistic that the ÖVP will achieve a strong result. Mahrer calls for a “political balance” in Vienna and is a possible coalition partner of the SPÖ. This reports vienna.at

In the course of the election, several surveys that the ÖVP predict runs that it could fall on about 10% of the votes. However, Mahrer considers surveys primarily as a "interesting measuring instrument" and emphasizes that voters are looking for solutions for the existing problems in Vienna. Mahrer is critical of the high social welfare for rejected asylum seekers in Vienna compared to other federal states.

challenges and solutions

Mahrer also addresses the topic of education and sees failures in German funding in kindergartens. He demands increased language support measures, especially for children who do not have sufficient knowledge of German. A central point of his program is the introduction of a German support plan that provides for a language status for three years of kindergarten for these children.

The financial situation of the city of Vienna is tense. A deficit of 3.8 billion euros will be predicted for 2025. Mahrer therefore proposes an administrative reform and de -bureaucratization to implement savings. During the current surveys, the population was also asked about their wishes to the upcoming government. 41079 votes were given, with the majority of the voters to favor measures such as taxes for super -rich (12%) and more money for health (9%).

Security and crime

Another urgent topic is the youth and violent crime in the capital, which Mahrer attributes to educational gaps. He demands more police officers on the streets as well as better lighting and a city guard to strengthen the feeling of security of the citizens. Mahrer is currently describing the police as a kind of "fire extinguisher" and pleading for a more consistent integration policy and the isolation of communities and parallel societies.

Despite the legal challenges in front of him in the Vienna value, where Mahrer is on trial on suspected contribution to the infidelity, he confidently comments that this cause will not have any negative effects on the elections. "A resignation in the event of conviction is the decision of the respective politician," he explains. Many citizens are excited to see how the elections develop in view of the current survey results and which topics will be the focus of the election campaign.
