New educational course in Ravensburg: 49 career changers against a shortage of skilled workers!
In a dramatic step against the acute shortage of skilled workers in early childhood education, 49 courageous career changers, including four men, have terminated their old jobs! These determined persons have decided on the new "Direct Entry Kita" course, which trains them in just 23 months as specialists. The Geschwister-Scholl School in Leutkirch and the Edith Stein School in Ravensburg are the first schools to offer this training. Mathias also, head of the Konstanz-Ravensburg Employment Agency, proudly announced the figures at a press conference.
"These are 49 specific contributions to the shortage of skilled workers," said. Around 40 percent of the participants already had experience in the education or care area, but not as specialists. The career changers also include people who come from unemployment, as well as working people who want to reorient themselves. Among them are Melanie Roos from Leutkirch and Petra Krane-Lehmann from Wangen, both of whom have given up their longstanding jobs in industry and retail to take a new professional path.
A new way with perspective
Roos, which worked in industry for 15 years, felt ready for a change, but traditional training was not feasible for her. "I can do the training as a daycare center with 80 percent part-time and receive normal earnings of around 2,840 euros," said Roos. Within just two months, she decided to give up her old job. Krane-Lehmann, who worked in retail for 17 years, also took the step to restart at the age of 45. "The Corona period showed me the meaningfulness of my job," she says.
The participants of the program not only bring life experience with them, but also benefit from an apprenticeship plan that provides for time for learning at home. "Almost all of us raised children themselves," emphasizes Krane-Lehmann. The agency for work also sees this course of education to compensate for the declining number of students in classic educator training and plans to permanently establish this course in the region.
