Musikverein Graz celebrates 140 years of Stefaniensaal with magnificent concerts!

The 211st season of the Graz Music Association, which was officially opened on March 25, 2025, is all about significant anniversaries. The director Michael Nemeth presented an extensive program in the Sofiensaal, which includes both musical highlights and solemn occasions. The start with the prestigious "concert for Austria", which is designed by the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of Franz Welser-Möst and represents a special homage on the occasion of 80 years of republic.

A highlight of the season is the Haydn festival, in which from September 29 to October 1, 2025 under the direction of Adam Fischer Joseph Haydn's masterpiece "Die Creation". In addition, a big music festival is expected for the double anniversary of 140 years of Stefaniensaal and 75 years of Graz Philharmonic around November 4, 2025, which should probably be a crowning glory of the celebrations.

The season offers a variety of other concerts. Particularly noteworthy is the concert at the opening of the Koralm Railway, which will take place at the end of November 2025. The orchestral cycles rely on a mixture of international ensembles and the Graz Philharmonic, which promises a broad musical spectrum.

In addition, Adam Fischer will perform the Danish Chamber Orchestra Haydn-Werke, while the Bruckner cycle culminates with the performance of Bruckner's Symphony No. 8. As part of the program, the Youth Orchestra Alpe Adria under the direction of Emmanuel Tjeknavorian will also be experienced. The 2025 season will not only be shaped by large concerts, but also by the promotion of families and education. Family and school concerts are intended to introduce children and school classes to classical music. Public rehearsals, introductions and guided tours by the Musikverein offer additional insights into the world of music. Last year, around 31,000 visitors visited 59 concerts, and the Musikverein has around 2,100 members who acquire 2,300 subscriptions annually.

The association's musical soirés combine concerts with a subsequent jazz lounge, while chamber music ensembles such as the Amatis Trio, the Belcea Quartet and the Vision String Quartet also contribute to refining the program. A soloist concert cycle with renowned artists such as Grigory Sokolov, Augustin Hadelich and Ivo Pogorelich should also underline the high artistic quality of the season.
