Mannheim celebrates Bağlama: Great symposium with star musicians!

Mannheim, Deutschland - A musical highlight is imminent! On December 8, 2024, Mannheim transformed into the epicenter of Turkish music. The State University of Music and Performing Art Mannheim, the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg and the municipal music school Mannheim invite you to the second Mannheim Bağlama symposium. Mayor Dirk Grunert will ceremoniously open the event and thus underline the importance of Mannheim as a place of education for Turkish music.

From 12 p.m., the State Hall of the Städtische Musikschule becomes the scene of a unique musical exchange. With Erdal Erzincan, one of the most renowned Bağlama champions, and the talented Derya Yıldırım, a multi-instrumentalist and Bağlama player, the event will be a festival for the senses. Also lecturers, students and alumni of the Global Music B.A. The Pop Academy course will present their skills and introduce the participants to the fascinating world of Bağlama.

The Bağlama, the heart of Turkish music, has become more important in recent years. The Popakademie Baden-Württemberg has been offering a Bachelor's degree Global Music with the Bağlama main subject since 2015. The Mannheim Music University also has teaching courses with Bağlama as a profile subject. In addition, the Bağlama has been part of the “Youth Music” competition in Baden-Württemberg since 2012, where the Mannheim music school shines with its own Bağlama ensemble.

The symposium is organized in cooperation with the State Music Council of Baden-Württemberg and the Oriental Music Academy Mannheim and receives support from the Ministry of Science, Research and Art Baden-Württemberg.
