Coalition poker: ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS before a decisive week!
Österreich - The coalition negotiations between the ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos are located in a crucial stage in which different assessments dominate. While some negotiators are pessimistic and estimate the chances of a successful result to only 20 to 30 percent, others optimize the assessment of 70 to 80 percent. According to a report by OE24 , the parties agree on many topics, including migration and health, while the topics of budget, economy and inflation are still controversial. Here the ÖVP and NEOS seem to be clearly on the same wavelength, while the SPÖ has difficulty finding a consistent line at some points.
critical negotiations and internal tensions
The coming days will be crucial for the negotiations, as reports MeinDärzirk . On Friday, a total of 300 negotiators from subgroups will present their results. The party leader Karl Nehammer, Andreas Babler and Beate Meinl-Reisinger will then discuss the remaining points in a chief round, with the focus on the budget consultations. The ambiguities of the budget numbers are an inhibitory shoe because they lack a clear basis for negotiation. The possibility of EU deficit procedure is particularly discussed because there is both support and skepticism within the SPÖ and ÖVP.
For the next week, another meeting of the steering group is planned, in which important decisions about the continuation of the negotiations and the budget framework are to be made. The fate of the coalition depends on an agreement on these questions, since the future projects depend heavily on the budget position. The parties have planned a break for the Christmas season, but are already planning intensive negotiations from December 27, in order to create clarity about the end of the intended traffic light coalition shortly after January 6th.
