Coalition crisis in Austria: Dispute over the Ministry of the Interior escalates!
The political negotiations for the formation of a new coalition between the FPÖ and the ÖVP in Austria take an exciting course. Despite massive speculation about the possible failure of the negotiations on Tuesday, the two parties continue their talks on Wednesday. However, central issues remain unresolved, in particular the occupation of the Ministry of the Interior, which has emerged as a delicate point of view. The FPÖ considers it as a key department, while the ÖVP insists on a sound distribution, as the Kosmo reported.
Herbert Kickl from the FPÖ and the chief negotiator of the ÖVP, Christian Stocker, met on Tuesday evening separately with Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen to discuss the current status of the negotiations. Stocker indicated that the talks were continued, while Kickl did not make a public statement. In the Hofburg, the Federal President demanded the fastest possible clarification of the progress of the discussions from the negotiating partners. The FPÖ sees itself under pressure, not only on the part of the economy, but also from the ÖVP, which is forced to a stable government, such as the Press documented.

The Ministry of the Interior remains the linchpin of the coalition talks. Kickl emphasizes that this department is best in the hands of the FPÖ, while Stocker wants to derive responsibility on a content. The mood in the negotiations remains tense and there are ambiguities about progress. Wirtschaftswatchdog Harald Mahrer had already expressed concerns in the run -up to the talks and asked the FPÖ to be compromising. Critical voices within the ÖVP also increase the pressure on Kickl, which is accused of not wanting to strive for a stable government.
A clear positioning per Europe, the conviction of the Russian war of aggression and measures against disinformation are required in a two -sided document by the ÖVP. On the other hand, the FPÖ temporarily strives to no longer accept new asylum applications in order to prevent the authorities overwhelmed. This point could encounter the consent of the ÖVP, while the negotiations continue to be on knife cutting edge.
